Day 3 of Tank Cycling

It’s been 2 days and we’ve added a full bottle of pH down to the tank since we first set it up. Let’s see where our pH is now.

… *dumps in 2 more bottles of pH Down*

Well, I’m getting impatient, so let’s speed up the tank a little (OK, I sped it up all the way) and then come back in an hour or so.

Alright! An hour later, we’re looking at a pH of 6.672, right where we want it. And to think, it only took 3 full bottles of the pH Down.

Anyway, time to get to the exciting part! Let’s add the first of our fish. We’ll feed everyone twice today and check on them again tomorrow. For now, let’s say hello to team catfish!

I’m happy that we’re starting with very healthy fish, and three of the 5 of them are thankfully pretty young. I have no intentions of breeding any Plecos, so I only have the young male named Pickle there. As for the rest, I’m absolutely open to breeding them. Martin and Beth are the same age (actually, all the fish were the same age in the file that they came from) so if they start breeding, then hey, great! Su and Jade I’ll have to wait for a while, which is fine.

Let’s have a look at the lower half of the tank so far.

Look how tiny!

All the fish are pretty small (except the Pandas, who I believe are at their adult sizes) and I’m happy with how the tank is looking so far. I’ll probably be adding more plants when I add the next round of fish. We’ll see how everything is looking when I add those fish!

I’ll check in again tomorrow to let you know how the fish are doing.

Thanks for reading!
