Here’s a quickie. My Species<\/em><\/a> entries will be published sometime in December. The first won’t be following this world concept, but I’m enjoying Species so much, keep an eye out for this sort of thing in the future. Adapted from Ferral’s Run<\/a> for Creatures.<\/p>\n

Just as with Ferral’s Run, you start by deciding on a time interval. At each interval (say, 15 minutes) you flip a coin to determine whether something happens. Heads for an event, tails for no, for example. If you’re using a die, you could try even numbers for yes and odds for no.<\/p>\n

If you don’t have to roll for an event, simply reset your timer and wait for the next coin toss. If you do, set up a random number generator to roll a number between 1 through 17.<\/p>\n

  1. Warm Temperature – If the temperature is already set to 1.0, do not increase, do not reroll for a new event.<\/li>\n
  2. Cool Temperature – If the temperature is already set to -1.0, do not decrease, do not reroll for a new event.<\/li>\n
  3. Increase Fertility – If the fertility is already set to 1.0, do not increase, do not reroll for a new event.<\/li>\n
  4. Decrease Fertility – If the fertility is already set to -1.0, do not decrease, do not reroll for a new event.<\/li>\n
  5. Raise Water Level – If the water level is already set to 1.0, do not increase, do not reroll for a new event.<\/li>\n
  6. Lower Water Level – If the water level is already set to 0.1, do not decrease, do not reroll for a new event.<\/li>\n
  7. Build a Fence – Build a single short fence wherever you like. You may only build one wall of fence. You cannot lengthen or add another fence until you reroll this event.<\/li>\n
  8. Remove a Fence – Remove one length of fence. You may only remove one length of fence, to remove more you need to reroll this event.<\/li>\n
  9. Build a Climate Control Device – Set the device however you please and place it in a random location.<\/li>\n
  10. Remove a Climate Control Device – If you’ve made more than one, remove the oldest device.<\/li>\n
  11. Move a random creature to the other side of your map.<\/li>\n
  12. Feed a random creature til it is full.<\/li>\n
  13. Kill a random creature.<\/li>\n
  14. Use Radiation Gun on a random creature.<\/li>\n
  15. Ressurect a random dead creature.<\/li>\n
  16. Create a Rover – configure it however you like. Once the rover is built, you may not edit it or drive it.<\/li>\n
  17. Delete a Rover from the bottom of your rover list (this seems to be the default as of 0.7.0 anyway).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Just as with Ferral’s event run, you can modify the rules however you like, this is just a rough guide to get you started. For example, I don’t flip a coin, instead, I always do an event when the timer runs out.<\/p>\n
