I want to see if people are interested in racing their animals! I’ve always loved horse racing games, which is where the inspiration is coming from, and I’d like to bring this excitement to petz.
Consider this post a rough-sketch/brainstorm/vision board for what I’d like to do with a racing scheme. I’m always open to feedback on how this will work and I’m considering this to be “in testing”. As we try more races and I get more feedback from players, I’m sure the scheme will grow and change as long as people are interested. Also feel free to run your own races using this or a similar template! Go nuts and have fun!
Rather than using the Gallop Racer 2006 format used by Seeing Stars (though I love it, it’s too complex and I don’t have time) I’m going to use an extremely simplified version of the program and some dice.
All races are assumed to be flat, all the same terrain and the weather is always good. Petz are always in top condition.
Unless there’s enough interest to require different categories, ALL Petz at any age, species or breed can participate. This is designed to retire petz quickly but “for fun” races are welcome – they just won’t acquire stat points anymore.
Petz also only have a few basic stats to choose from:
Top Speed – The fastest speed a petz can move.
Agility – How well a petz handles the turn
Start – How quickly the petz can start out the gate
Temperament – How well the petz can handle the stress of the final stretch
Petz will be allowed to allocate 20 points towards stats of their owner’s choosing. The lowest a stat can be is 1 point, the highest is 10.
I’ll be keeping track of petz who enter the shows in a spreadsheet which I will link on this post once it’s available. – AVAILABLE HERE
Each race, a petz will gain experience, regardless of their placing. After each race, points are awarded based on placing.
Once a pet has earned 10 stat points, they’re considered retired and will no longer gain experience from running races but may still participate in races just for fun.
1st – 3 points
2nd – 2 points
3rd, etc. – 1 point
Alternatively, only the top 3 can be awarded points. I’ll leave this up to the race’s host.
To enter a race, you must provide a picture of your pet at a full run. The pose does not affect any dice rolls, but it’s fun to see the petz running in their race. Legs must be outstretched, back as level as the breedfile will allow. Face can be in profile or looking at the camera.
You must also post the petz’ stats. Here’s a convenient copy/paste:
Top Speed – Agility – Start – Temperament – |
Once the race starts, 2d6 will be rolled at key points in the race for each pet. This will be their luck for that particular point in the race.
The key points are the gate, the first stretch, the turn and the final stretch.
For example:
I have Resemble entered in a race.

Resemble
Top Speed – 5
Agility – 5
Start – 5
Temperament – 5
The sum of the petz’ stats and the results of the dice rolls determine the petz’ placing. Higher numbers earn higher placings.
For now there is no breeding scheme but I’m open to ideas and input from players. I hope this is clear and makes sense! I got a little ramble-y here.
Examples of racing photos. Any pet can participate. It doesn’t have to make sense.
