Creatures 1 – Filled With Hope

hopeIt’s been a while, hasn’t it?

A while since I last opened Creatures. A while since I last opened up to members of the community that I missed dearly. A while since I last felt any real joy playing these games.

But that joy is back and so am I. I’ve missed you all and I’m glad you’re here to join me on my adventures again.

After doing some testing on my own, I created a new world and opened up Creatures, ready to start anew. I’ll be playing with Jessica’s fixed food cobs and Arch’s Perficio breed, by the way. A long time ago I made Perficio hatchery files and I’ll be playing with those, so who knows what sort of sprites my first creature will have! Let’s just hatch this first egg, shall we?

hopebabyMeet Hope, everyone! Real original name, I know. She looks to be part Forest Norn and part Horse Norn. Interesting mix! Granted, because I didn’t add the special quirks for individual species so she won’t have any Forest Norn traits outside of her looks. Since we’re on the topic, let’s take a look at her genes. I’m more than a little rusty, so if I’m ever wrong please let me know!

ORIGINAL – Gene 97 – 8   0 Emb   B Mut         ‘I bump into wall’ causes sig=0 GS neu=2(I’ve bumped a wall) int=255, , , Sensed Even When Asleep => 25*Pain++ + 127*Turnase + 0*<NONE> + 0*<NONE>

HOPE – Gene 97 – 8   0 Emb   B Mut         ‘I bump into wall’ causes sig=0 GS neu=2(I’ve bumped a wall) int=255, , , Sensed Even When Asleep => 25*Pain++ + 127*<088> + 0*<NONE> + 0*<NONE>

Under STIMULI Hope has a mutation that changes how she responds to bumping into a wall. Most creatures will be injected with Turnase which sends a signal to their brains to, you guessed it, turn around. In Hope, her body is injected with chemical 88 which in this case doesn’t do anything. She might be wall bonking a bit which will be frustrating for both her and for me but Creatures can be called away from that sort of hazard. Unless I’m mistaken, Creatures 1 creatures don’t suffer from wounds as a result of bumping walls so it’s a pretty minor change.

Anyway, with all that done, it was time to teach her some words. I taught her all the verbs in the computer and she was finished with her lessons by the time she was just 5 minutes old. She also learned about toys, food and about all the things in the kitchen.

She would stop sand look at the plants for a while before approaching them! It’s like she needed a minute to consider things before learning more about them. The same went for food and toys at first, too. Maybe I’d get lucky and she’d quickly learn to leave weeds alone or avoid them altogether, huh?

Anyway, that’s all I have time for today! Next time I’ll be introducing her new friend and perhaps the grendel will make an appearance!

  1. Aww, it’s always so much fun to start out with your very first Norn! They grow up so quickly, though. I’ve found that the stimuli gene that got mutated in Hope doesn’t do too much, meaning she won’t be seriously terrible at running into walls. The pain increase usually signals a time to turn around… Sometimes. But even the maximum amount of pain doesn’t cause wounds, which in turn would lead to death. That’s something that came as a shock in the later games! She’s one very cute lady, and I’m thrilled that she gets to enjoy some of those food updates!

    1. It’s a relief it won’t affect her health, isn’t it? I’m glad she gets to enjoy the food updates, too! Between the Perficio genome and your updates, I’ve never had an easier time feeding my C1 norns. 🙂
