Creatures 1 – A New Friend For Hope

It was another bright, shining day in Albia when it was time to introduce Hope’s new friend. Then again, the weather never changed in Albia, so it seems like that should go without saying. 😛

bandicam 2016-07-08 11-47-26-963As I mulled over the single egg in the hatchery, I had an idea. Naming schemes were brought up over at the Discover Albia forum and I thought “You know what? Why don’t I try a naming scheme for once instead of just trying to pull names out of the air?” I pulled up a list of emotions to draw names from and eagerly waited for the little guy to hatch. What would he look like? I guess that’s what we’re here to find out!

bandicam 2016-07-08 12-05-26-050Meet Zeal, everyone! He looks like a full Purple Mountain Norn and gracious does he look dapper. That’s thanks to Jessica’s Updated Baby Male fixes. Lookin’ great, Zeal! I took him up to the computer to get his vocabulary jumpstarted and before I could congratulate him for sitting still long enough to learn all the words in one go, I heard this loud slurping sound.

bandicam 2016-07-08 12-13-38-501I switched over to Hope to find her drinking down all the hooch! Goodness gracious! She was really putting them away! I moved her away with a lift and soon she was sleeping.

When I went back to Zeal, he’d gotten his first bite of cheese. What a great treat to have for his first meal! Like Hope, he’d learned all of his words very quickly. I had some business to attend to though – his genetics!

164 Zeal   9   0 Ado  M  MutDupCut   Drive i/ps SexDrive + General Sensory i/ps IT is opposite sex + Drive i/ps Pain and I Pull => 112*Reward

In the first of these, it seems like Zeal might get less of an Adrenaline boost when he’s fearful than his parent genomes. I think this is a good thing since, if I’m not mistaken (and I often am) Adrenaline will cause a creature to age faster. At the very least Adrenaline isn’t great for a creature’s health.

In the second of these… I’ve been pretty rusty so I had to open both genomes in the C1 Genetics Kit to really understand what I was looking at.

Here it’s related to reproduction. The original gene basically reads:

If the following conditions are met:
creature has SexDrive
the target is a creature of the opposite sex
Lobe/Cell=0/0 **

And I:
Pull it

Then I get:
112 reward chemical

I’ve marked “Lobe/Cell=0/0” because I wanted to note that when I opened this gene in the Genetics Kit, it says “Not Used” so this line can be safely ignored.

In Zeal, however it reads like this:

If the following conditions are met:
creature has SexDrive
the target is a creature of the opposite sex
creature has Pain

And I:
Pull it

Then I get:
112 reward chemical

In other words, Zeal will only get a reward for mating if he’s also in pain! This doesn’t mean that he won’t mate, but it might make the whole experience less rewarding for him. Poor guy.

Still, that was a ways away and we had some living to do before they could even think about having babies of their own.

bandicam 2016-07-08 12-35-15-592Hope seemed to understand and made a bee-line for the honey. She seemed so happy taking honey from the jars and marched away from the hives with her jar in hand, happy with her new treasure.

bandicam 2016-07-08 12-40-24-148Zeal on the other hand was still learning about herbs. I showed him the Baobab and the Feverfew. A quick slap on the butt when he tried the Baobab seemed to be enough to discourage him from eating weeds, but he ate herbs happily as I watched.

Both babies were old enough now to explore Albia on their own, but we still had one more creature to meet.
