Wow! Another video? Well, ok. Here, I’m just introducing my Creatures 1 group.
Sometimes, it’s just hard to comment on Creatures when things are going smoothly. Even with the threat of Death Cap in the last Creatures 1 update, things were going pretty well for everyone.
A long, peaceful period like this is usually a good indicator that it’s time to introduce somebody new, though. All safe and clear? Let’s hatch an egg.
And by that, I mean let’s import one of the previous babies. This time, it’s a little lady who I’ve named Peony. She was good and learned all her words right away. She even ate a carrot and since her lessons were done, I let her go to roam and interact with the other Norns.
It was when I was trying to feed Cassy and Danny that I got the bad news.
Aidan had passed away at the ripe old age of 13 hours, 17 minutes. At least he spent his last hours with his favorite companions, the bees. He seemed to really enjoy their company for some reason. Perhaps it was the abundance of food? Maybe he liked to watch them? Whatever the case, he died a healthy, happy old norn.
None of the current norns seemed especially shaken by this news but then, Aidan was alone at the time. Perhaps they hadn’t noticed. Still, he fathered many of the creatures alive now, and his genes would live on.
The slowdown in eggs was nice and I was tempted to have more groups like this – a high concentration of one sex but only one member of the other at a time. Of course, I would have to alternate this to keep the sexes well balanced, but I didn’t want to get overwhelmed with eggs. I still hadn’t decided with to do with them, short of posting them for adoption or eliminating them.
Cassy didn’t seem to be in any rush to have any more eggs, though, which, in a way, was good.
What wasn’t good was finding that Danny had eaten some of the Death Cap mushroom below the swamp. He slept and Cassy got in the way, but I watched his health drop. He did manage to eat some honey and he stared at a carrot for a long time before finally eating it. With his health on the up again, I was finally comfortable to let him fall asleep. Good thing I noticed!
Bobby, David and Perry spent their time on the island looking at parsnips and tickling each other and Aidan was by the bees, enjoying his endless supply of honey. Cassy still loitered by the clock in the tree and a quick peek at Danny showed that he was still sleeping near the air tram. While he snoozed, I tried to send him Aidan’s way so that the two could have some company but Danny woke before arriving and moved it back to the right.
Just then, Aidan’s age creeped up to 13 hours. I started to speculate that he’d been paused when he went catatonic in a previous world. The poor old guy was in a state, but the event might have contributed to his longevity. Who knows, now? In any case, I wondered how old he would bet before he finally passed away.
Since starting my YouTube channel, I’ve had to find ways to make time for recording, editing and to write for this blog. I love doing all of those things but there are times when some of my hobbies become so challenging that they become frustrating. For example, the day I’m writing this, I recorded 5 episodes and none of them were usable. Two due to technical difficulties and the other three because of low energy and just bad quality. Finally, I pulled through and succeeded.
Today, Creatures is intended to be my break from all that frustration and heart ache. Unfortunately, Aidan was so old, it seemed like I wouldn’t be able to enjoy his presence as much as I’d hoped. Still, he’d be able to go up to Silicon Heaven and enjoy life with his old companions Lydia and Opal.
His passing away would also mean that another female would be able to join us, which was at least a small consolation for his inevitable passing. I couldn’t remember what genders the stored babies were, but it seemed like as good a chance as any for me to introduce some Generation 1 girl to the scene.
I poked around the world and noticed that all the younger boys were napping – only Bobby and Aidan seemed interested in exploring in their old age and Cassy was fascinated by old Bobby – she hardly left his side and he never left her sight! I’d also (re)installed Jessica of Discover Albia’s sprite and body data fix and the edits seemed to hold this time. There were still some glitches here and there, largely due to some issues with this game running on my particular system (64 bit? Too new a Windows?) but there was a definite improvement in the sprites. The best guess I had was that the graphics just didn’t get along well on my computer in the first place.
Of all the norns in the world, I don’t think any slept as much as Danny. His health always seemed high, but I doubted he’d impress any female norns with that kind of lethargy. Then again, all it would take is a broody female norn passing by for him to have any offspring. Creatures are funny that way!
