I added passageways to the world to make navigating a lot easier for my norns. I decided not to use the OceanBridges but otherwise, the house and falls areas are more permeable.

bandicam 2014-11-20 21-02-01-514Not long after, the Observation Kit showed a headstone next to Gerald’s name but he was still alive. Poor guy. With his life force fluttering around 23 and 24%, things were looking very grim, even though he was still very alive. As if that wasn’t enough, I had a small panic when I saw Aidan was sick on the Observation kit. Thankfully, he’d only sampled a little bit of Baobab and slept it off. Hopefully, he learned his lesson.

Soon, things were very quiet again and I thought about introducing a third egg. I’d much rather Lydia and Aidan have their first egg before I introduce any new genetics, but sadly, I was beginning to get a little bored. The last thing I wanted to do, though, was smother the poor things! If there’s anything I’ve learned from previous creatures I’d reared in this game is that they require constant attention for only about the first 20 minutes of their lives, when they need to be taught their vocabulary, what is ok to eat and how to rest and play. After that, they almost seem to get confused!

bandicam 2014-11-20 21-11-36-003It wasn’t long before Gerald was an adult. He finally grew up and I led Lydia from the temple all the way to him. They kissed a bit but there was no luck getting an egg. Suddenly, Lydia was sick and I had to lure Aidan away.

With her health sitting at 61% I had to act fast. It plummeted from what was a very healthy 77%. I convinced her to eat a lot of food and before long, her health was at a comforting 77% again. Gerald also managed to get sick and his health was at a pitiable 9%. Poor guy. What a hard life he’s had.

Before I got her health up to those numbers, however, I trapped Aidan up by the computer and he and Lydia thought it would be cute to play with the lifts. I kept panicking every time Lydia sneezed near Aidan.

bandicam 2014-11-20 18-28-50-899The three spent a lot of time in the kitchen looking around at things. Aidan had a bit of an exploratory phase when he was very small but that seems to have passed. Now, it seems everyone is happy to be a homebody, not that Gerald ever seemed to have the choice anyway.

While this was good news for hopeful breeders, there were some cons to everyone being so close together all the time. For starters, it wouldn’t be difficult for them to get each other sick should a bacteria work its way into the population. Second, it would be difficult for me to communicate with them.

bandicam 2014-11-20 18-42-18-795I tried not to worry about it too long and Lydia’s awful sprites made it pretty easy for me to forget about future problems. She finally grew up tall enough to touch the clock in the kitchen but she didn’t look much better for it. I did my best to ignore it. She was healthy after all. I even coaxed her into eating a carrot. Gerald worked himself even further into a corner as Aidan explored the temple. After playing in the lifts for a while, he made his way to the edge of the underground pier and took a nap.

Meanwhile, Lydia continued frowning and seemed to be trying to coax a baby out of Gerald. The poor guy! He might have been starving and his health force might have dipped to 28 by now, but he might still get a chance to be a father. Fingers crossed, everyone!

bandicam 2014-11-20 16-50-32-718As Gerald’s health began to dip to the upper 30%s, I debated hatching another boy to fill his place. Lydia wasn’t getting any younger, after all. I didn’t think on it too long and soon, I had a light blue egg waiting to hatch.

bandicam 2014-11-20 16-52-06-678Unlike Gerald, this little one, who I’ve named Aidan, didn’t take long to boogie up to the computer at all! In fact, he practically made a dash for the lift and I’d only just caught him in time to take him up to the computer.

As I taught Aidan his words, Gerald managed to shimmy over to where the lift could pick him up. Gracious! Maybe I could teach him left and right. Suddenly, I was very busy and very excited.

Gerald was taught all the words the computer could teach him but he was still very much immobile. At 33% health and hesitant to eat, I wasn’t optimistic. Aidan on the other hand, was doing famously. He made his way to the garden on his own and even learned about weeds and plants. Before long, he and Lydia were spending time together in the kitchen, talking about comfort items and drinking coffee.

I couldn’t stop trying to get Gerald to eat, though. Even with Lydia’s help, he wasn’t moving or doing anything. Poor guy. As he looked around, he spun and slowly pushed himself left towards the incubator. Permanently exporting him became more and more attractive. I held out hope that Gerald might be a father someday so I ultimately decided to keep him in the game.

Now an hour old, Lydia seemed interested in starting a family. Unfortunately, poor Aidan wasn’t yet old enough to help her with that desire. The poor baby had only just aged to the next stage of life! Gerald was the closest in age and his problem didn’t seem genetic, however. Perhaps he could have an egg that didn’t have his problem?

bandicam 2014-11-20 14-26-33-776Lydia seemed very anxious to meet her new friend. In fact, she was so curious, I was able to teach her the word “egg”. I hoped she wouldn’t linger for too long so that I could teach him his vocabulary, just as I had with her, but I didn’t make too much of an effort to encourage her to leave the house. From this little green egg came our newest member of the Creatures 1 world, Gerald.

bandicam 2014-11-20 16-16-44-070What a handsome little guy! His meeting with Lydia hasn’t gone smoothly, however. As I tried to lure her away with a ball, she decided to walk right up to Gerald and smack him. Poor little thing. He hadn’t even done anything yet! Literally! He hadn’t moved from the incubator for a while and I was starting to get worried. Normally, a baby norn is up and wandering around before you get the chance to say “stop”.

This was very strange to me. After looking through his genetics, he seemed no different from his father genetics.

Since norns learn language from each other, however, I tried using Lydia to teach Gerald some words. Asking “what” repeatedly got her to teach him some language. How cute! Once Lydia got bored and left, though, Gerald remained by the incubator. I brought him a carrot, which he only stared at. It seemed like there was nothing I could do but wait and see what he would do. Even with his focus on it, the bouncing ball couldn’t make him budge. It was more than a little frustrating. I decided instead to focus on Lydia.

bandicam 2014-11-20 16-35-07-738 copyShe kept frowning at me, unfortunately. She seems to be perpetually tired and resting causes her tiredness to go down in steps rather than gradually. I wondered if this affected sleeping behaviors in creatures. I got tired of waiting on her and moved on to Gerald again. This time, I exported and reimported him. It moved him closer to the lift and the fridge, but it didn’t seem to encourage him to move much. In fact, even with Lydia right there, he didn’t seem to be in any hurry to move from one spot. Even with it in reach, he wouldn’t even push it! Poor thing might not be alive for very long. His life force hovered at 43%.

bandicam 2014-11-20 16-42-02-986Meanwhile, on the island, there was a grendel playing with a cart. It would scoop him up automatically and he would press it to go left instead. It reminded me of some battled I had with traveling norns in the past and I thought it might be worth it to allow the stubborn things travel as they pleased, except during catastrophes like a plague.
