As most nurture-style worlds tend to be with me, this one hit quite a lull. There were a few points where I had to intervene and offer toys and various foods to norns but, otherwise, everyone was getting bigger without incident.

I did have to keep a very close eye on Percy, though. He seemed to have a harder time learning how to help himself.

At 20 minutes old, as of posting this, Susan is the youngest and still a child. As for the others, they were all Adolescents and would soon start breeding. It got me thinking about their genetics and I just couldn’t resist taking a peek anymore. I paused the game and set to work.

Jane

1jane

I skipped our little Generation 1 girl because her genome is no different from a CFE Chichi norn’s. Just a few exceptions were that her digestive needs and aging genes all had mutation turned off. 🙂

William

2william

Next, I moved on to William. Seeing as this group is a few generations along, I sat down and read through each of the differences from the CFE Chichi genome. I’ll spare you the part about their brains and the minor changes, but I’ll definitely share the changes that I find interesting.

Receptors

202 file 1  68   0 You F MutDupCut        128   0 Organ# = 11, Creature, Sensorimotor, Involuntary action 1, chem=Progesterone, thresh=223, nom=0, gain=255, features=Digital  (0)
202 file 2  68   0 You F MutDupCut        128   0 Organ# = 11, Creature, Sensorimotor, Involuntary action 1, chem=Progesterone, thresh=245, nom=0, gain=255, features=Digital  (0)

This is part of a ‘family’ of genes that I like to consider the ‘egg laying’ group. These control whether a female can get pregnant, when she can get pregnant, how much progesterone she produces and how much is required to lay an egg. The change here means that a female creature would have to produce more progesterone before she can go into labor and lay her eggs. As William is a male, this won’t affect him directly, but any girls he has might carry this gene and will have longer pregnancies as a result, assuming they can produce enough progesterone. However, if they can’t, they’ll have stuck pregnancies.

236  file 2 131   0 Emb B MutDupCutDor     128   0 Organ# = 13, Current Reaction, No Tissue, Reaction Rate, chem=CA smell 12 (Norn), thresh=214, nom=209, gain=56, features=Analogue  (0)

This (and other genes related to smells, stress, and some of the hunger receptors) are all dormant, so he cannot experience stress from sleepiness, hunger from protein or hunger from carbs.

Emitters

203 file 1  13   0 You F MutDupCut        128   0 Organ# = 11, Creature, Reproductive, I am pregnant, chem=Progesterone, thresh=128, samp=1, gain=3, features=Digital  (0)
203 file 2  13   0 You F MutDupCut        128   0 Organ# = 11, Creature, Reproductive, I am pregnant, chem=Progesterone, thresh=128, samp=3, gain=4, features=Digital  (0)

This belongs to that family of egg laying genes I was talking about. Here, the changes make it so that a female creature would produce 1 unit more progesterone than normal, but at a much slower rate. I’m not 100% on the math involved, but I’m pessimistic that a female with this and the described gene above would be able to lay an egg if she were to become pregnant.

Neuro Emitters

536 Different in file 2   1   0 Emb B MutDupCutDor     128   0 [03: stim] [Cell 37 (Grendel)] + [Brain Lobe 255] [Cell 0] + [Brain Lobe 255] [Cell 0] => 8*Adrenalin + 13*Fear + 6*Crowded + 0*<NONE>; Rate = 4.

The Fear produced is normally 5, so this guy gets much more scared when he senses a Grendel. Poor guy.

Reactions

262 Different in file 1  20   0 Emb B MutDupCut        128   0 Organ# = 15, 1*Hunger for protein + 1*<NONE> => 1*Hunger for protein backup + 1*<NONE>; half-life = 18
262 Different in file 2  20   0 Emb B MutDupCut        128   0 Organ# = 15, 1*Pain + 1*<NONE> => 1*Hunger for protein backup + 1*<NONE>; half-life = 18

This gene is called the “Painly hunger for protein overwhelmsion” gene. That means that when he experiences too much pain, his genes should convert Hunger for Protein into Hunger for Protein Backup. That’s not the case, however, and instead, Pain gets converted to H4P backup. This could mean that when he experiences too much pain, his pain could be converted more quickly but into a state that you wouldn’t expect, and he’d come out of his frightful event hungrier for fruit than he was before he got scared.

Half Lives

Progesterone
CFE ChiChi – 50
William – 57

This is good news for any daughters he might have. Despite the changes above, a slower decay for Progesterone means that the girls have a good chance to lay their eggs.

Life
CFE ChiChi – 99
William – 101

More good news! This means that he should have a slightly longer life-span.

Up, Down, Exit, Enter, Wait
CFE ChiChi – 38 (all)
William – 0 (all)

I don’t know a lot about the navigation chemicals, but in William, they vanish from his system instantly.

Stimuli

389 file 1   2   0 Emb B MutDupCut        128   0 Creature slaps me (4) causes sig=116 GS neu=0 int=0, ,,,240 => 2*Anger + 6*Fear + 3*Pain + 3*90
389 file 2   2   0 Emb B MutDupCut        128   0 Creature slaps me (4) causes sig=116 GS neu=0 int=0, ,,,240 => 10*Crowded + 8*Fear + 7*Pain + 4*90

Good news about his temper, William doesn’t get angry when he’s slapped by other creatures. However, he does get very crowded, experiences slightly more fear and gets more pain and woundedness from getting slapped. Similarly, in the next stimuli gene, he gets more fear and woundedness from the hand slapping him as well.

396 file 1  10   0 Emb B MutDupCut        128   0 I have rested (21) causes sig=116 GS neu=9 int=78, ,,,112 => 1*Boredom + 1*Hunger for carbohydrate + 3*Sleepiness + -6*Tiredness
396 file 2  10   0 Emb B MutDupCut        128   0 I have rested (21) causes sig=116 GS neu=9 int=78, ,,,112 => 5*Coldness + 1*Hunger for carbohydrate + 3*Sleepiness + -6*Tiredness

Rather than get a little bored from resting, he actually gets very cold! Poor thing. It does help to explain why he always complains of feeling cold.

409 New in file 1  23   0 You F MutDupCut        128   0 Involuntary 1 (29) causes sig=0 GS neu=9 int=34, ,,,240 => 9*Pain + 23*Sleepiness + -13*Progesterone + -124*Comfort

This gene is absent in William. This gene makes it so that pregnant females experience pain and sleepiness once they’ve laid an egg. His daughters might lack this gene which would make for comfortable, painless birth, but they wouldn’t get the same reduction in home sickness.

Wow! I’m surprised I’m doing a blog world again. For a while there, I was just super caught up in other things, but I’m around now.

Ghost_Norn and I haven’t given up on our Trade world concept and now, I’m honoring my half of the trade. Let’s meet the babies I’ll be playing with this round.

1janeFirst, the Gen 1 creature that Ghost_Norn sent me. I had no idea what breed she would be, but I’m glad she turned out to be a pretty little Astro girl. Truth be told, I’d probably be happy with anything, but I was just really happy to see that pretty purple color.

She didn’t take long at all to use the HLM but she wanted more. Sad thing had to learn her lesson about the HLM patch early and before long, she talked about how lonely she felt. Not for long, though!

2william

Next, I brought in Billowy Scarecrow, who I renamed to William. He was from my side and was probably starving from his IQ test. He was showered with food and I tried my best to teach him to use the HLM. He took some convincing, but once he was educated, he was happy to tell me how bored he was.

3annaAnna was another from Ghost_Norn’s side. She already knew her words and was happy to express herself. She even took to bossing William around right away! It wasn’t long til the 3 babies were marching around the lower level of the Meso together. I decided to let them walk around together and learn before importing the next babies.

Perhaps the most important lesson, I taught them to rest when tired but they’d already figured out eating.

4geoffrey

Next, was Uneven Weather, who I renamed to Geoffrey, who came from my previous world. He was identical to his brother in appearance and I wondered if he had the same gene that made William feel cold.

5percyPricey Tomatoes was another of my boys and, though he was similar in appearance to his brothers, his arms were different. I renamed him Percy. Like the others, it didn’t take a lot of coaxing to get him to press the HLM.

6susanLast, though certainly not least, came Susan, another girl from Ghost_Norn. She immediately pressed the HLM, as though she hatched and set her mind to learning Handish.

Now that the babies were all hatched and fed, it      was time to move them to the Norn Terrarium (after unleashing some cleansing Roamers, of course). I baby-proofed the pond with a Lavaball (teleporting kind) and watched and waited.

Some were already starting to age and get older, like the boys I’d put through the IQ test. Susan, Anna and Jane were all lagging behind but would soon catch up. Jane was the first of them.

Percy did have a little bit of a disaster but as soon as I’d heard the whining, I forced him to eat fruit and play with toys. After that, there didn’t seem to be any trouble for a while. Until Percy neglected to eat his greens again. I started to suspect I would have to teach him to eat them more than once in his life but everyone else seemed to know to play when bored and eat when hungry. I’d have an adventure ahead of me, that was certain.

bandicam 2014-07-28 23-01-43-158 copyBefore we got started, I lined up all the offspring to get a good look at all the colors. Stunning!

After going AFK for a while and working on other things, I returned to find that only two of the creatures failed the test. Amazing!

This meant I had to narrow down the selection a bit. I could pick from the remaining geats randomly but because I had a pretty good spread of boys and girls, I decided that I should pick two boys and two girls to send to CreatureLink and I could send the others to the DCF queue.

You will find them available for download on the CreaturesLink page.

Hi! I’d like to apologize in advance for the very repetitive post I have here. The Geat world I’ve been playing will have been played in one contiguous session and because of the quiet nature of the creatures in question, I was really only able to report on one medical concern and many, many, many pregnancies until their deaths.

Truthfully, if you only scroll through and look at the baby pictures, you won’t be missing much. Enjoy.

bandicam 2014-07-28 20-19-27-729 copyWhat a way to break in a new world. I started the game for the night and bam! Another pregnancy notification. I wasn’t prepared for the surprise I was in for, though.

bandicam 2014-07-28 20-21-45-380 copyThis time, yes it finally happened, we got a boy! Out of ten babies so far, we have nine girls and one boy! Finally!

And look at that orange! It’s starting to seem like Mom and Dad are going to have lots of babies of lots of different colors.

As the seasons changed and the food sources ‘moved’, they had another pregnancy on their hands.

bandicam 2014-07-28 20-27-54-576 copyI watched them closely to see if they would move from their perch in the top right corner but as I waited, this brown shaded baby girl was born.

Well. Looks like we’re having girls again.

I encouraged the pair to look for food elsewhere and when they travelled to the lower levels of the biodome, they managed to get separated, though not for terribly long.

bandicam 2014-07-28 20-32-40-746 copyShibuichi followed Chromel down into the caves where new food was growing.

All of the food they needed would be here in this cave for the summer. Poor Chromel, though. He was Old now and only seemed to want to rest. He lost interest in food despite only ever wanting to eat in his youth. I pleaded with him to eat seeds but had no luck. Eventually, I had to isolate him and smack him on the butt a few times to convince him that he should. He did not eat a second seed but the one ensured he would live a while longer.

Shibuichi joined us and soon convinced Chromel to eat, too. When he was feeling well again, I took the opportunity to work on a side project. Naturally, I had another baby on my hands before I could get started.

bandicam 2014-07-28 20-49-48-553 copySurprise! Another girl! Yes. Another one. With the offspring count up to 11, I had all the confidence in the world that I would have IQ-test passers to give back to CreatureLink.

She was put away with her siblings and I went back to monitoring her parents and working on my project.

Now, both parents were back to normal, eating food and pushing toys just as before. I tossed them a duck to play with and watched them wait for seeds to fall so that they could eat.

bandicam 2014-07-28 20-59-34-898 copyAs if on cue, I finished getting set up to work and then had a new pregnancy notification on my hands.

What a pleasant surprise, though! We have another boy! Things are starting to look up for this terrible gender ratio.

And what a neat pruney color. He might not actually be prune colored, but I was certainly reminded of prunes when I saw him.

Then, there was another pregnancy. It’s starting to seem like these two are only interested in eating and enjoying each other’s company.

bandicam 2014-07-28 21-09-29-785 copyChromel took some time for himself while he waited for his twelfth child to arrive. Shibuichi laid her egg by the elevator by the cave.

Out of that egg hatched… another boy! Things are definitely looking up.

Chromel still kept to himself for a little while, eating carrots as they grew and plucking seeds from above to feed his bottomless appetite for starch. Shibuichi rested nearby and the pair took a short nap together.

I hardly made it through one set of pigment genes before another egg was waiting for my attention.

bandicam 2014-07-28 21-15-51-027 copyChromel waited by eating more carrots and I decided to turn up the frequency for that patch.

I love the variety of colors I’m getting just in posting this one update. Look at them all! Now that I have some boys in the mix I feel like I’m done begruding the girls, too.

Not that they aren’t all special just that I don’t want to submit 20 girls is all. 🙂

A quick chat with one of my friends home distracted me for a while and soon, we had another pregnancy!And another!

bandicam 2014-07-28 21-48-22-049bandicam 2014-07-28 21-24-20-513 copyGoodness! I should start advertising these as ‘baby watch’ posts!

I have to say, I wasn’t expecting either of these colors from the pair! Green! Silver! How exciting.

The season shifted this time to Autumn and the safe cave they’d made home was out of food.

I escorted Chromel up to where the new food was growing, above the tree platform above the cave. They saw fit to have another child, likely because of the abundance of food. While they filled up on mushrooms, aubergines and explodonuts, I observed a little friend I’d injected for them to play with.bandicam 2014-07-28 21-54-06-003 copyHere she is. Sadly, I probably won’t be reporting on her much because she’s too busy eating Balloon Pigeons to take interest in our Geat friends. Oh well.

bandicam 2014-07-28 21-54-58-395 copyI left the ettin to her own devices and snapped a photo of yet another boy! This is more like what I’ve come to expect from this pair’s offspring.

That shade is definitely reminiscent of Chromel.

Before long, there was yet another girl! My goodness!

bandicam 2014-07-28 22-02-01-607 copyI’m starting to think such fast-breeding creatures are boring to read about!

Only kidding. I’ve thought that since these two started breeding like ettins!

I sent these two to stay with their siblings and braced myself for yet another pregnancy. From now on, I might just post pictures at the very end and not bring attention to pregnancies at all. Hah!

bandicam 2014-07-28 22-07-16-490 copyWe have another boy to add to the roster!

He looks much more like his father than the others this round.

By now I’m curious to see a blue baby come from this pair. The green baby was pretty unexpected after all. Why not see blue, too?

Sadly, I didn’t see blue with this following pregnancy.

bandicam 2014-07-28 22-13-16-321 copyInstead, we got another yellow baby. This time, another boy! I can’t cut down the population a little with the coming IQ test.

With Shibuichi and Chromel 5 hours and 5 and a half hours old respectively, it looked like breeding was finally going to slow down. They were both Ancient at this point, after all. Right?

As if to dash my hopes, they got pregnant again. As though 21 babies wasn’t enough. These two would probably be my most prolific pair in recent history.

bandicam 2014-07-28 22-19-24-976 copyAt least, I don’t remember any non-ettin creatures producing quite so many offspring!

This lady would be number 22 from our pair.

Shibuichi and Chromel stayed by the food for a long time and I thought of moving one of the food types to a different location, though I couldn’t decide where. It was nice to have different safe spots to eat, but spreading out the types of food could be a fun challenge for them as well.

bandicam 2014-07-28 22-27-05-645 copyAs I mused on this, you guessed it, another pregnancy notification appeared.

Another boy and also number 23.

I’m running out of things to say at this point!

Just as soon as I exported this little boy, Chromel passed away!

bandicam 2014-07-28 22-29-14-346 copyAnd what a busy life he lived! In youth, he spent most of his time quietly eating and then, when his lady-love was old enough to breed it was as though they decided together to keep me on my toes for the rest of their lives together.

Shibuichi lingered for a while because of the abundance of food and things seemed very “business as usual” for her. I brought the small ettin girl to her so they could keep each other company and set back to work while the two slapped and played.

bandicam 2014-07-28 22-48-51-752 copyAs Shibuichi became surrounded by more and more fruits of my labor, she seemed to become more content. She happily offered advice and stuck close to the ettins. Soon, though, she would pass away surrounded by her new friends.

I hope you enjoyed my adventure in geat egg hatching. Hahah! Next time, we’ll see who passed the IQ test.
