Foreword – I’ve already donated $10 for the preorder and I encourage you to try this sim out for yourself. If you like it, help the devs out – the full release is supposed to be much more costly.

Also, this was originally intended to be a 1 part entry but it’s been split up for easier reading.

Species 2014-11-29 12-17-20-594 copyI know I’ve been at least aware of this game for a long, long time but I’d never actually loaded up the game in my computer before. Curious, I decided to finally give it a shot.

I’d already messed around with the game for a few hours on the default settings but I decided to try something different for this particular entry. This time, I’ve given myself a goal. I increased the benefit from grazing and reduced the aging rate to .25. Just to see what would happen. I really don’t know what I’m doing.

I’m going to try to encourage the artificial life in this game to grow as big as possible. My tools were pretty limited but Rovers, I think, are going to prove more useful in the future.

These are my initial shots. With the aging rate slowed a bit, I can take more time to document what I see. Even in x1 speed, the population quickly capped but the game still didn’t seem to have any performance issues.

In a very short period, I had creatures with legs, some with eyes and many others still were a different color than the yellow potato color we’d started with.

The last two thumbnails above are of the rover and its settings. Since bigger animals were my goal, I decided to have a rover feed all the larger animals. I don’t think size has anything to do with how well they can survive in this particular world but heck, why not?

bandicam 2014-11-28 15-46-02-534 copyIf asked to go on a vacation with Jane, I would wholeheartedly decline. The Jungle isn’t my idea of an ideal vacay spot, but Jane certainly seems to enjoy it. I will admit that the magic beans make this place more interesting but still. Not my thing.

I had other sights to see with the rest of the norns, though. Once they decided that pushing portals was fun, they were all over the ship. Geoffrey and Percy made their way to the desert, Susan went to the jungle, William to the Norn Meso they were still traveling for a while. Henrietta and Paulie both stuck to the Norn Terrarium and napped near the heater.

bandicam 2014-11-29 14-27-21-562 copyBefore long, everyone was out and about doing their own thing. I even tried to get Susan pregnant when she was alone with Percy but, no such luck, I’m not currently expecting any new eggs from this group. Jane was still near the two of them so I encouraged her to use the elevator to visit them. Despite a kisspop, no pregnancy notifications.

After a while, I decided to visit everyone and offer a shower of hand food. I installed a few more heaters and, when I wasn’t looking, Jane and Percy made another egg together. I was feeling very pessimistic that Susan would ever try for one. At least she got along alright with Henrietta.

bandicam 2014-11-29 14-49-57-650 copySpeaking of, Henrietta became pregnant and had an egg when my attention was diverted. Good for you! Everyone, meet Oodle. He’s the newest of our grendels.

I wasn’t planning on a second population in this game, but it was welcome nonetheless. I fed everyone and made a note to pay closer attention next time.

bandicam 2014-11-28 15-54-34-078 copyIt had been a while since I last checked on my Creatures 1 world. With my husband’s recent homecoming and Thanksgiving, I didn’t have much time at all for my computer at all!

Lydia, Aidan, Gavin and Opal were all separated from each other but otherwise very happy. Watching them reminded me a bit of a cozy Summer’s day spent napping in front of a fan.

The monotony was broken up a little when Lydia met up with our Grendel friend, though. It’s always so nice to see smiling faces for once! After their ride back and forth beneath the garden, Lydia and the grendel took a nap and I took the opportunity to check the other creatures.

bandicam 2014-11-28 16-00-12-330 copyGavin explored the lighthouse and Opal ate and played in the garden. Aidan seemed most interested in exploring the albian seas. When he made it to the swamp, he seemed depressed, but I brought Lydia over to cheer him up. Instead, she slapped him but they kisspopped and made another egg! Amazing how Norns work.

As I waited for the egg to arrive, Opal made friends with Lydia. I can just hope that she’s interested in pregnancy and becomes the next mother in our little world. I tidied up the honey pots while I waited and beside some occasional slapping everything was otherwise peaceful. Before long, a little red and yellow egg was laid and I used the Egg Collector to move it to the kitchen. Lydia was given a carrot to aid in her recovery and I was soon able to make my rounds again.

bandicam 2014-11-28 15-30-26-585 copyI hate to admit it, but things were starting to slow down and I wanted to see more than just Norns in this world. I didn’t have any intent to breed grendels or ettins but the diversity is nice. That said, I went ahead and hatched a male ettin named “Ett”. I led him into the Norn Terrarium with the other creatures and he seemed to fit right in already.

Not moments after his introduction, Jane was pregnant again. William would be the father of this egg. Then, just before Jane laid her egg, Ett was killed. It seemed Percy and William didn’t like Ett much and I hardly had time to rescue the poor guy because I was preoccupied with Jane.

Jane was happy to restore the population a bit, though since she became pregnant again! It seemed like she would be the most important norn of the run since Susan didn’t seem to have any interest at all in breeding.

bandicam 2014-11-28 15-42-19-415 copy

This didn’t do much to cheer me up so instead, I introduced a pair of Friendly Banshee Grendels to the bunch. I named the male Paulie and the female Henrietta. Susan didn’t seem too keen on either of them but they were better able to care for themselves, at least. I watched them more closely than Ett and punished Percy and Susan when they started terrorizing poor Paulie. Henrietta at least seemed to be faring much better. She only had William and Geoffrey to bother her and they weren’t especially active. Oh, but where was Jane?
