It was getting to be so easy for me to give up on Creatures 2 worlds. There were just too many problems with the gameplay and built in genetics. And then GimmeCat posted this awesome article on how to pull genetic files from eggs. Great work, GimmeCat!

Now, I was finally able to play with Nova Subterra norns like I’d wanted. Instead of creating a new world to play with and get to know norns, however, I wanted to play around with the genomes, like I often did with Docking Station. Just as with the Kannova, I decided to add instincts to eat other foods and to drink when thirsty. This set of genes missing just seemed very strange to me, especially given the problems with learning that the default genomes had. Then again, looking at the instincts, I also saw that there were 3 instincts to reward eating food and 3 for fruit. One food instinct and one fruit instinct for The Embryo, Adolescent and Adult stages. Uh. What?

Anyway, instead of replacing these, I instead added the new instincts for each of the three life stages used by the food and fruit instincts. To start with, I added the instincts to drink when thirsty. Why was this missing? Then, instincts to push dispensers when hungry. Finally, I added instincts to eat seeds, leaves and roots. Before too long, I had my first test norns.

bandicam 2015-04-01 23-03-50-718 copyThese two are some of the updated norns. I decided on the Bahama norn sprites only because I like them. I added more norns just like them to pad out the population a little and hopefully prevent extinction. Now I only had to wait to see what the eight of them would do.

They spent much of their time wall bonking, unfortunately. After a while, I moved them to the lower level near the swamp, where the carrots and potatoes were growing. I thought at the very least that the abundant food would be good for them. Unfortunately, a few died anyway. Perhaps I should add instincts to eat flowers? It was an idea, anyway. Another idea? I should probably take the time to teach these guys some lessons about life. This test group wasn’t doing so well. Eventually, the game crashed anyway.

Hey guys! I’m sure I’ve mentioned Discover Albia on my blog before, but I wanted to bring special attention to something that Jessica is doing now. I mean, Discover Albia is what got me blogging in the first place! Jessica has a survey open til the 10th of April and she’s using it to plan special community events and features for her blog for the future. If you have a few minutes and haven’t filled it out already, go fill it out!

bandicam 2015-04-01 21-29-12-451 copy Would you look at that happy face? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a norn look so happy during pregnancy! And look! She’s still holding her ball. Maybe she’s hoping to give it to her baby once it hatches?

Too bad that was so far off because of my hatching policy. At least she was willing to eat for me, probably because her boredom was so well managed. The little smarty pants always had a toy with her, so there was no reason to be bored! She later laid her egg with no problems and that brought our total to 7 eggs. Quite the number!

Cassy, as usual, complained about hunger but was so preoccupied with Danny and hooch that she practically refused food! Fed up, I moved the hooch to the small pond below the waterfall. I still didn’t have any success feeding her. I guess Danny was just that great a distraction.

I returned to the island to find Grub making friends with David (who blinked, of course)bandicam 2015-04-01 21-43-21-857 copy. The pair was talking about the lift button and sharing complaints. David talked about how tired he was and Grub kept repeating “Grub food”. I guess he was hungry!

Poor Mallory was hungry too and her health reflected that! Perry was in the same area as her and kept eating the carrots, though! What a greedy norn! His health was at a cool 77% and Mallory’s was at 55%. Before I could get a carrot in Mallory, Peony became pregnant. Of course, with Perry moved out of the way, Mallory still didn’t eat.

bandicam 2015-04-01 21-53-33-321 copyI tried to get her to sleep instead since rest seemed to be her biggest need. Even so, she didn’t sleep and her life force continued to decline. I injected her with “Sleeping Pill” and decided to feed her once she woke up. Once she woke up, I offered her a parsnip and she ate without being asked! Soon, she had that bright, smiling face on again. This got me thinking and I decided to try helping out Cassy again.

bandicam 2015-04-01 21-57-55-699 copyI had little success and as I was trying to feed her, David got sick. Grub and Peony were nearby and I couldn’t get them away from him because they decided to play with the lift. It took a few rides on the lift before I managed to get him away on the paddle boat. Antigen 0 turned out to be the culprit this time and, thankfully, he didn’t get anyone else sick. Once he was ashore, I had a real challenge on my hands trying to feed him. I offered him some cheese but a sneeze had him spinning out of control. He finally got to eat it when his health was at about 40%. Then, he ate a carrot. It crept up to 56% when I finally talked him into sleeping.

bandicam 2015-04-01 22-11-56-123 copyUltimately, it was his body that would win the battle. If we were lucky. All I could do was bring him food. His health took a sharp turn downards as his antibodies increased in number. The bacteria fought hard, but I had faith in him. I mean, look at that goofy, optimistic face. Of course, as I took his picture, he aged right before my eyes

The battle wasn’t over yet, though! We still had an antigen to fight and it was fighting hard. When his health dipped to 38%, I started to lose hope. Of course, the girls couldn’t let me take a break during a time like this. Tabby became pregnant while I helped David fight his sickness. David at least kept eating. I wondered why his fight was so difficult but then, a deeper look into the science kit revealed two unknown toxins in his body! It seemed like the bacteria were starting to evolve. Unfortunately, I had no idea how to deal with unknown toxins in this game. I hopefully injected David with Anti-oxidant but it seems like his body was already winning. His antibody 0 count was finally higher than antigen 0 and he was finally recovering.

His status was finally reading “Healthy” and I could move on to other things, like Peony’s failing health. Thankfully, she didn’t have an illness and quickly ate the carrots I offered her. I also collected Tabby’s egg, which was laid during my trouble with David. I hardly noticed the 20 minutes pass because the experience was so nerve wracking, but it was finally over. I couldn’t even take many pictures!

bandicam 2015-04-01 12-41-25-575 copyJust as before, it seemed like time was just ticking down and all the norns were eventually going to die of old age. Given how cozy their lives were, I at least knew they were going out happy. Dark Cat would be the next to go and I have to say, I especially liked him. He was quiet and liked to stick to himself. Besides that, he also had a wild appearance.

When he finally passed away, Delia was by his side. She was a bit of a loner too, so I decided to leave her where she was, but I did have an idea to make the last 4 hours of this world more interesting. I decided to add a new metaroom and what better room than C1toDS? Once they were in here, they couldn’t get back out, either.

I lined everyone up in the metaroom and unfroze them. Instantly, everyone was on the move. There was even a huge spike in the number of pregnancies!

Untitled-1 copyI guess the way things worked out were interesting, but it seems like a lot of friends got seprated from eachother when they seprated into those small tribes.

bandicam 2015-04-01 13-06-21-466 copySadly, Lin passed away in front of the stove. At least she was kept warm, but what an unusual way to go. The norns around her were praising Aster!

Then again, Lin’s never stayed in one place for very long. She was always the ship’s wanderer, roaming from one tribe to the next. I’m glad she got to be surrounded by so many norns when she passed away.

There wasn’t much roaming anymore, however. Stain was the first to make it to the swamp and even so, quickly turned back and returned to the garden where most of the other norns were.

bandicam 2015-04-01 13-15-21-859 copyI couldn’t blame them for choosing to stay there. The food was abundant and that’s where all their friends were! The norns in the house ate from the fridge and everyone seemed active and happy! Only a handful had to be told to eat (Akuma, Flame, Logic) but once told, they were happy to oblige.
